This ward contains :
11 places for ambulatory hospitalisation.
The surgeon and the anaesthetist may offer you the choice of ambulatory hospitalisation.
That is to say :
You are admitted to hospital on the morning of your operation.
You leave in the afternoon.
- Preparation for surgery
It is essential that you do not ingest anything as from midnight before your operation (no drinks, food, or cigarettes)
Before you leave home you must take a shower with an antiseptic scrub solution the night before and on the morning of the intervention.
As far as possible, you must shave or use depilatory cream on the area to be operated on.
Don't forget to remove all nail varnish, jewellery , studs or make-up
Please leave all valuable objects at home.
- Before you go to the operating theatre
Remove all hearing aids, dentures and contact lenses.
During the intervention your only clothing will be your hospital gown.
- Back from the operating theatre
You will be taken off the drip by the nurse, according to prescription
The return to your normal diet depends on the doctor's prescription and it is essential to respect this once back at home.
Make sure you have some comfortable clothing as the first dressing may be a little uncomfortable (in case of surgery for the upper limb in particular).
Don't forget to bring your crutches or orthopaedic shoes if necessary.
- Before you are discharged you will be seen by a doctor
The possibility of hospitalisation cannot be entirely excluded (if there's a problem such as pain or vomiting …)
MAKE SURE THERE IS SOMEBODY TO DRIVE YOU HOME(taxi-driver, ambulance man, a friend or a member of your close family)
The night before your operation you will be contacted by phone by our department in order to confirm your time of admission to the ward (and you will be able to ask any questions you may have)
