Medical file access

The administrative and medical files of patients are kept at the Montpellier University Hospital. You can access yours or, under certain conditions, that of a loved one.

How to ask for a copy of your medical file

If you wish to obtain a copy of an external consultation file, your medical file can be sent to you by contacting the medical secretariat of the department that received you directly.

Montpellier University Hospital has a computer system that allows you to better manage your administrative and medical records. Unless you object when you are admitted, your medical file may be used for statistical or scientific purposes. This will be done in strict compliance with professional secrecy and the regulations in force, guaranteed by the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL).

The Article R.1112-7 of the Public Health Code, stipulates the time limits for storing and disposing of the medical file :

Hospitalization recordsdeadlines

Adult patients and children under 8 years of age

Child patients under 8 years old

Deceased patients

20 years from the last stay or the last consultation

Until the 28th birthday

10 years after the death

A doctor from the hospital department in which you were treated is at your disposal to receive you and answer your questions. He can send you a copy of your discharge letter.

In accordance with the articles L.1111-7 and L.1110-4 of the Public Health Code,

the patient, or his legal representative, or his beneficiaries, may obtain communication of medical information concerning him directly or through a designated doctor.
The medical file can be sent to you or consulted on site. The cost of reproducing and possibly sending the documents shall be borne by the applicant.
